Safety New Year's Resolutions
Start the new year off safely with these resolutions.
Get Enough Rest
Ok, this may sound like a silly safety resolution — but we mean it! Prioritize your sleep this year, and make sure you are well rested before you get behind the wheel. Driving while drowsy can be as dangerous and driving while intoxicated. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, drowsy driving is a factor in more than 100,000 crashes, resulting in 1,550 deaths and 40,000 injuries annually. Getting a good night’s rest on a regular basis is the only way to truly protect against drowsy driving — so aim for the expert recommended seven to height hours per night. Zzzzzzz!

Put Down the Phone
This one is a no-brainer. We’ve all heard the distracted driving stats — in Ontario distracted driving accidents have doubled in the past 15 year; every half hour someone in Ontario is injured due to distracted driving; in 2016 distracted driving accounted for more collisions than any other factor — we can go on! And with distracted driving laws becoming much tougher in Ontario beginning today, there is more incentive than ever to be law-abiding. This year, let’s all resolve to put an end to this bad safety habit. Need a few helpful tips to get you started? Help a Friend or Loved One
We like this resolution a lot — because in addition to helping yourself, it is fulfilling to help a friend or loved one also stay safe. This year, why not challenge someone in your life to improve their driving? Download Onlia Sense to monitor your driving performance in the areas such as cornering, braking and speed and share your drive scores with your friend or loved one to help keep each other on track. After all, life is better when we’re safer together.
Happy new year!
